Shikwa Jawab e Shikwa : With E 3.0

Shikwa (Urdu: شکوہ‎) and Jawab-e-Shikwa (Urdu: جواب شکوہ‎) are poems penned by the renowned Urdu language poet Muhammad Iqbal. The verses found their way into the pages of his collective works titled Kulliat-e-Iqbal. Translated to English, "Shikwa" signifies a "complaint."

First appearing in 1909, Shikwa and its sequel Jawab-i-Shikwa from 1913 celebrate the historic significance of Islam and its civilizing influence, lament the circumstances of Muslims globally, and directly engage with the challenges facing Islam in the contemporary era. Shikwa serves as a poignant appeal to Allah for what is perceived as a betrayal of the Muslim community, while Jawab-i-Shikwa is presented as Allah's response.

The initial release of Shikwa in 1909 stirred controversy among Islamic scholars who believed that Iqbal’s tone towards God was disrespectful and ungrateful, given the absence of the companion piece, Jawab-e-Shikwa. However, upon the publication of Jawab-e-Shikwa in 1913, these concerns dissipated. Iqbal was then lauded for his significant contributions to Urdu poetry and his impactful influence on Islamic literature.
